Non-destructive testing is divided into:
Non-destructive testing (NDT) is a testing technique performed using non-invasive methods, preserving the geometric and qualitative characteristics and structural integrity of the material. This approach allows for the identification of any discontinuities or inhomogeneities without compromising the functionality of the examined artifact.
Non-destructive testing methodologies are divided into two main categories:
‘Volumetric’ Controls:
- Radiographic Inspection (RT): Allows internal inspection of the piece using ‘X’ or gamma rays, with reading of a film that records the impressed image.
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT): It is based on the propagation of ultrasonic waves inside the component, with a receiving and amplification device that displays the behavior of these waves on a screen.
‘Superficial’ Controls:
- Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT, LPI): Consists of the penetration of a liquid by capillarity, with the detection of indications through chromatic contrast.
- Magnetoscopic Inspection (MT, MPI): Application of a magnetic field to ferromagnetic materials; any indications produced alter the field’s flux lines, visible through special metal powders.
The technical staff responsible for performing and interpreting the results of these tests hold Level II certification in accordance with the UNI EN ISO 9712 (formerly UNI EN 473) and SNT-TC-1A standards. This ensures in-depth expertise in the application of standardized procedures, guaranteeing maximum precision and reliability in our non-destructive testing services.
